{"id":50,"date":"2013-03-18T09:58:23","date_gmt":"2013-03-18T09:58:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.globalspaceexploration.org\/wordpress\/?page_id=50"},"modified":"2025-06-11T14:43:46","modified_gmt":"2025-06-11T13:43:46","slug":"about-isecg-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.globalspaceexploration.org\/?page_id=50","title":{"rendered":"About ISECG"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>International Space Exploration Coordination Group<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>(ISECG) <\/strong>is a forum of 28 space agencies to advance the Global Exploration Strategy through coordination of their mutual efforts in space exploration (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hhfxCXsxqDE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">video<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>ISECG is a\nvoluntary, non-binding coordination forum of space agencies which:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Exchange\ninformation regarding interests, plans and activities in space exploration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work\ntogether to strengthen both individual exploration programmes and the\ncollective effort<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Principles<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open and\ninclusive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flexible\nand evolutionary<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Effective<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supportive\nof mutual interests<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Origin and foundation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2006,\n14 space agencies began a series of discussions on global interests in space\nexploration. Together they took the unprecedented step of elaborating a vision\nfor peaceful robotic and human space exploration, focusing on destinations\nwithin the solar system where humans may one day live and work, and developed a\ncommon set of key space exploration themes. This vision was articulated\nin&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalspaceexploration.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Global-Exploration-Strategy-framework-for-coordination.pdf\">The Global Exploration Strategy: The Framework for\nCoordination<\/a>,&nbsp;which\nwas released in May 2007. A key finding of this framework document was the need\nto establish a voluntary, non-binding international coordination mechanism\nthrough which individual agencies may exchange information regarding interests,\nobjectives, and plans in space exploration with the goal of strengthening both\nindividual exploration programmes as well as the collective effort. This\ncoordination mechanism is the International Space Exploration Coordination\nGroup (ISECG).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Terms of Reference<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/ISECG-Terms-of-Reference.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Terms of Reference<\/a>&nbsp;for ISECG were formally adopted at the first meeting of ISECG held in Berlin in November 2007. The ISECG chair function rotates and is determined by consensus. The scope of ISECG is broad and strategic. ISECG focuses on the development through consensus of non-binding products for use by participating agencies \u2013 roadmaps, findings, recommendations, and other outputs as necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ISECG products are developed by working groups whose themes extend into space exploration strategies, mission architectures, technologies, science, commercialization, public outreach, and the emergence of new space agencies. Dedicated teams support working groups, as required, on special subjects. The work is guided by regular meetings of the Senior Agency Managers (SAMs) and monthly plenary ISECG teleconferences. The degree of participation in <strong>ISECG working groups<\/strong> varies by agency and by product. As ISECG work is based on consensus among the members, all products developed at the working group level need approval by the ISECG plenary. ISECG is supported by a permanent Secretariat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Joining<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>ISECG welcomes new members and is open to any government space agency interested in leveraging collaboration and partnerships to more easily achieve their space exploration goals and yield greater benefits to their communities on Earth. &nbsp;If you are
