The “Annual Report 2019” of the International Space Exploration Coordination Group (ISECG) provides an overview of the ISECG achievements and activities over the past year.
In 2019, international momentum for Moon exploration further increased. Responding to these dynamic developments ISECG agencies have focused on updating and expanding the international lunar surface exploration scenario to reflect the changes and potential opportunities resulting from the recent plans. They decided to develop an update of the Global Exploration Roadmap (GER) published in 2018, entitled “GER Supplement (2020)”. The “Annual Report 2019” provides a first insight into key features and elements of the updated scenario that will be addressed in the supplement.
As a major element supporting the GER, the definition of the GER Critical Technology Portfolio was completed in December 2019. It comprises extensive portfolio analysis. The ISECG Annual Report 2019 provides an overview of key topics of the technology portfolio review and focus areas of the technology gap assessment, which was supported by subject-matter experts from participating agencies.
Space exploration has always attracted public interest. In order to respond to this interest and to enhance engagement amongst the public in future exploration, ISECG members undertook an analysis on how to extend communication reach and reaching non-traditional audiences through new engagement channels. First insights into the results are provided by the “Annual Report 2019” after a summary report was concluded at the end of 2019.
Furthermore, throughout 2019, the international space community has shown strong interest in ISECG and its work, and several space agencies have become new members of ISECG.
