The International Space Exploration Coordination Group (ISECG) published its Annual Report for 2023, highlighting significant achievements and outlining plans for the future of space exploration from the different members’ perspectives. Among the notable accomplishments of the past year were the completion of a comprehensive review of the Global Exploration Strategy (GES), reconfirming that even after 15 years since its initial publication, the GES remains as important and relevant as when it was first drafted, and the annual meeting of senior agency managers held in South Korea to propel forward the ongoing work to update the Global Exploration Roadmap (GER) in 2024.
In 2023, ISECG released five web news articles, an annual report, and a report on the gap assessment of nuclear power and propulsion technologies. Additionally, the group was represented in major space events such as the 38th Space Symposium and the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2023 held in Baku, Azerbaijan, solidifying its commitment to global collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Looking ahead to 2024, ISECG has set ambitious goals: publication of an updated GER, a revised white paper emphasizing the wide range of benefits of space exploration, and a comprehensive assessment of life support systems gaps. Moreover, ISECG remains steadfast in its dedication to exploring diverse topics, including technology development, architectural considerations, scientific endeavours, commercialization strategies, and fostering collaboration with emerging space agencies.
