The second Annual Report (2008) of the International Space Exploration Coordination Group (ISECG) and its sub-working groups has been released. This document provides highlights of their activities during the past twelve-months including the progress of its Workplan, work ahead, the major space exploration accomplishments of its members including future opportunities, and progress in implementing the Themes described in The Global Exploration Strategy: The Framework for Coordination.
These themes being:
– New Knowledge in Science and Technology
– Sustained Presence – Extending Human Frontiers
– Economics Expansion
– A Global Partnership
– Inspiration and Education
An important milestone for 2008 was the creation of a space exploration International Standards Working Group (ISWG) now called the International Architecture Working Group (IAWG). This working group, under the leadership of NASA, took on the task of identifying a reference lunar exploration architecture and the key element interfaces recommended to be common, and of priority, that would maximize opportunities for international cooperation in an open architecture environment. The ISWG identified three lunar surface exploration scenarios and is pursuing how elements for transportation, habitation, and scientific investigations could be realized to implement an international lunar exploration campaign.
